Robert Batesreceived his B.S. in Chemistry from MIT in 2004 and a Ph.D. from Scripps in 2009. Following a post-doctoral role at the Spanish National Research Institute (CSIC) in Madrid, he joined GSK´s Tuberculosis unit as a medicinal chemist in 2011. Since then he has worked on projects ranging from early screening to lead optimization and early clinical development projects. He now leads the TB group´s pre-clinical portfolio which includes 3 assets in first-time-in-human enabling studies, and multiple programs in earlier phases.
